Lecrae: "They don't see artists as people, they see them as characters."

"They don't see artists as people, they see them as characters." I respected the man before, but I gained even more respect for Lecrae after reading this interview. Being very public with his faith exposes him to more criticism than average, especially from the church. In an interview with HotNewHipHop.com, he responded to a question about criticism from some Christian circles who question why he works with artists that often rap about drugs and sex by saying

My fans rock with me but there’s people who pop off and don’t get it. They don’t live in the same world I live in or the detriment of the culture. They also don’t see artists as people, they see them as characters. You know that’s a person, right? I know what he’s talking about is foul, but you can have a conversation about it with him. Like Paul Wall - I told him this is what I want the song to talk about, and he was cool with it and respected where I was coming from.

He also went on to add Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000 to his wish list of collaborations, and also mentions a humbling experience with Bun B of UGK. I salute Lecrae and you can download his latest mixtape Church Clothes 2 here.
